China Three Gorges Corporation("CTG") created the company China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd to operate renewable power generation projects in Pakistan. CSAIL's registered office is in Hong Kong, the Special Administrative Region of China, and its representative office is in Islamabad, Pakistan.

International Finance Corporation has invested US$ 125 million in a 15 percent stake in CSAIL. IFC aims to bolster eco-friendly power projects in Pakistan to curb the menace of climate change and encourage economic growth in the country.

CSAIL's total investment for the development projects in the next eight years is US$ 10 billion, which includes hydropower, wind, and solar projects.
